Conflux series, 2001
In the “Conflux” series, I continue to explore the idea of non-decorative abstract painting. By covering square canvases with overall organic patterns, I make paintings that extend beyond the edges of their frames. The viewer is presented with a close-up look of a piece of an unfamiliar universe. Elements of chance are incorporated into each painting and composition emerges from each painting’s many different layers and their textures. The process of creating these paintings involves repetitive actions that result in the depiction of a personal landscape - a record of my actions made up of markings.

The title of the "Conflux series" is a made-up word. “Con” means jointly or together and “flux” means change or movement. Conflux suggests a universe of interrelated parts that is always moving and changing.
