Washed and Repainted, 2007
In the series "Washed and Repainted," I stretched and prepared 6 canvases and painted 6 abstract oil paintings. Then I took the paintings off their wooden frames and washed them in a washing machine. Finally, I repainted the paintings using a mixture of residue paint collected from the washing machine, various mediums and new acrylic paint. In repainting the canvases, I emphasize the shape of the original folds and edges created by the stretching, a jar-like shape.

These are paintings about paint, exploring the physical properties of paint and paintings. At the same time, they are an attempt to reinvent abstract painting for myself by making paintings that are both abstract and conceptual in nature.
