Everyday Fairytales, 2005
"Everyday Fairytales" is a series of composite pictures. Each picture is made up of three digital prints. The first print is of a child’s drawing in pink marker. Part of an English nursery rhyme can be made out, backwards, through the paper. The second print is a color photograph of a black and white snapshot of me from my childhood. I have rephotographed the original snapshot to redirect the viewer’s focus (by changing the image’s size and cropping it), and to emphasize and integrate the scratches and other imperfections of the original snapshot. And the third print is a photograph from my everyday life that reflects my present situation. The three prints in each composite picture relate to each other and are to be read together.
