A Book, 2005
"A Book "(4:30) is video started in 2003 and completed in 2005. Originally, the book used in this work was called "Go Rin No Sho" or "A Book of Five Rings." It was written in 1645 by samurai master Miyamoto Musashi and details the philosophy and art of killing with swords. Musashi writes about the various aspects of the martial art of Kendo, but his book is meant as a guide to strategy and understanding in life. After reading the book many times, I have eradicated most of the words and made each page into a visual artwork. What is left is a visual poem. In the video, I read the poem as I show the transformed pages of the book.

In my most recent video projects, I have been using obsessively transformed and handmade objects as the subject of each video in an attempt to juxtapose the different media and memorialize the idea of the artist working with tactile materials.
